Bus Tour - Lake Mahinapua > Franz Josef (Bushmans Centre)

I think it might of been 5 something am and I woke up feeling.... well after two pitchers of cider, two glasses of wine and a jager shot... how do you think I felt. So I went for a walk and I'm really glad I did cause I caught a really pretty sunrise.

We drove for some hours, arrived in Pukekura and came across what is know as the Bushmans Centre. This is probably one of the most bizarre places I've been to in NZ. (From the kiwi handbook) "The centre offers an insight into how people make aliving on the coast through sphagnum moss, timber-milling, possum trapping, and helicopter deer recovery."

Once we got in there we watched a video on this and saw the Bushman dude jump from a helicopter and tackle a deer, round it up and helicopter it out of the bush and exchange it for $1000-$2000. CRAZY!

Albino Possum,

Bushman!

This was alive.

Before...

After.

My new winter hat.

They used to make actual Possum pies but the government sent a legistlationt o stop the cooking of possum in pies. Possums are a creature in NZ that have over populated and it is actually encourage to hunt and kill them. On the way to the Pancake rocks we ran over one and as I quote the bus driver said "Omg it popped!" Don't feel bad. NZ population is about 40 million while it is estimated that the possum population is around 70 million.

A nice change from sheep.
